A San Jose police officer, 31-year-old Timothy Hackney, is currently on administrative leave and facing felony domestic violence charges related to multiple incidents involving his pregnant girlfriend. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's office announced that Hackney was arraigned on both felony and misdemeanor charges at the South County Courthouse, which include shooting his duty weapon inside his home, false imprisonment, and assault. Prosecutors revealed that the domestic violence incidents date back over a year. In a troubling incident during a 2023 trip, Hackney allegedly slapped his girlfriend's phone out of her hand when she attempted to call the police. After escaping the vehicle, she sought help at a nearby restaurant, where she called the authorities, although she hung up before speaking to them. A record of the call was later confirmed. In a separate incident last year, Hackney reportedly fired his service weapon inside their home, endangering their young child. The DA's office noted that when the victim confronted him, he remarked, "I missed," and Morgan Hill police later discovered a bullet hole in the ceiling. Additionally, during a June 7 incident, Hackney allegedly forcibly restrained the victim, covering her mouth and nose to prevent her from calling for help. At a recent court hearing, Hackney was released under specific conditions. Authorities emphasize the importance of holding all perpetrators of domestic violence accountable, regardless of their position. Resources are available for those affected by domestic violence.
