Story

In Portland, Oregon, OnPoint Community Credit Union has announced the promotion of Damian Laviolette to the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO) on November 26, 2024. Following an extensive national search for talent, Laviolette, who has been with the credit union since 2022 as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, will now lead the organization’s initiatives in technology innovation and information security. His extensive experience includes over 30 years in IT and information security across various sectors including financial services, government, and defense industries. Before joining OnPoint, Laviolette held significant positions at other financial institutions, notably as Senior Vice President and CISO at Webster Bank, along with a role at Umpqua Bank in network security operations. His military background includes two decades of service in the United States Army, where he ultimately served as a Chief Warrant Officer in the Signal Corps. This blend of experience in the private and public sectors makes him well-equipped to drive OnPoint’s digital banking strategies and strengthen the cybersecurity framework necessary for protecting member information. Rob Stuart, the President and CEO of OnPoint Community Credit Union, expressed enthusiasm regarding Laviolette's promotion, citing his expertise in information security and operational excellence as critical for enhancing member services. The credit union, which boasts over 576,000 members and a significant asset management portfolio of $9.4 billion, will greatly benefit from Laviolette's strategic leadership as it aims to expand its digital services. He is expected to succeed Jim Armstrong, the current Chief Operations Officer, when Armstrong retires in April 2025, taking on additional responsibilities that are essential for sustaining the institution's growth. As the technology landscape in financial services evolves, Laviolette's role as CIO will be pivotal in navigating the challenges of innovation and security. His commitment to building a solid technological foundation aligns with OnPoint's mission of ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its members. Furthermore, his academic qualifications, including a master’s degree in information security and certification as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), bolster his capacity to lead OnPoint’s initiatives in a rapidly changing digital environment.
