On May 22, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 103 newly redeveloped Amrit Stations across India via video conferencing during a special event held in Bikaner, Rajasthan. This initiative is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to modernize Indian Railways by enhancing over 1,300 railway stations nationwide, providing upgraded passenger amenities, and preserving regional architectural styles. The Ministry of Railways noted that five of these upgraded stations are situated in Karnataka, namely Munirabad, Bagalkot, Gadag, Gokak Road, and Dharwad, showcasing significant improvements including accessibility for Divyangjan, aesthetic upgrades, and modern transport facilities. This major infrastructure project has been undertaken at a total cost exceeding Rs 1,100 crore, covering 86 districts in 18 states and Union Territories across the country. The upgraded stations are designed to cater to passenger needs better and enhance the overall travel experience as part of the government’s broader strategy for railway modernization. The improvements include new station buildings, enhanced platforms, foot over bridges, and modern signage, reflecting modern design principles while maintaining local cultural heritage. The redevelopment’s focus is not only on efficiency but also on making the railway system more inclusive for all passengers. In addition to the launch of the stations, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for several major development projects worth over Rs 26,000 crore in Bikaner. His visit included blessings at the Karni Mata Temple and an inspection of the Deshnoke Railway Station. Alongside the inauguration of the Amrit Stations, other projects initiated during his visit include the expansion of railway tracks and significant upgrades to road infrastructure aimed at boosting transportation efficiency within the region.
