Story

On Thursday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated an integrated control and command (ICC) unit aimed at enhancing student safety in Mira-Bhayandar schools. The event took place via video conferencing at the Bharat Ratna Lata Mangesh Auditorium in Kashimira, attended by key officials including civic chief Sanjay Katkar and police commissioner Madhukar Pandey. This initiative is part of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation's (MBMC) efforts to monitor live feeds from CCTV cameras installed in municipal schools. The ICC unit will oversee the live surveillance of 36 municipal schools, which cater to approximately 9,250 students, including 4,625 girls. The chief minister emphasized the importance of deploying female police officers for random inspections in schools to engage with girl students and address any issues they may face. This proactive approach aims to create a safer environment for students, particularly girls, who are often vulnerable to various forms of harassment. Shinde encouraged both municipal and private educational institutions to adopt the MBMC's model of real-time monitoring as a preventive measure against crimes targeting female students. The initiative is designed to enhance the safety and security of students by linking the CCTV feeds to the surveillance system of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police. The ICC unit, equipped with advanced technology, serves as a central hub for monitoring activities in schools. This project marks a significant step forward in school safety measures and is the first of its kind initiated by a civic body in the state, setting a precedent for other regions to follow.
