Story

A recent survey has revealed that over half of the British population, specifically 53%, cite musicians Billie Eilish and The 1975 as key influences in their pursuit of sustainable living. Despite this motivation, a significant 90% of respondents acknowledge uncertainties surrounding eco-friendly practices, with many fearing high costs and lacking guidance on where to start. The research indicates that awareness of environmental issues has been heightened by artists like Coldplay, who have adopted sustainable touring practices, with 52% of participants noting this impact. The poll, conducted by OVO, also highlights that two-thirds of attendees at live music events are already making greener choices. Popular actions include using public transport (41%), disposing of waste responsibly (35%), and carrying reusable water bottles (26%). Interestingly, 19% of respondents expressed a greater willingness to adopt sustainable habits if incentivized with music-related rewards, such as discounted tickets (77%) and exclusive VIP access (50%). In a collaborative effort to promote sustainability, musician Jessie Ware and broadcaster Clara Amfo have partnered with OVO to showcase the influence of music on eco-friendly behaviors. In a short film, they discuss the intersection of music and sustainability while traveling in an electric vehicle to an exclusive gig for OVO Beyond customers. Ware emphasized the role of artists in inspiring positive change, noting the increasing trend of eco-conscious touring among musicians. Clara Amfo echoed this sentiment, expressing her support for Ware's initiative and the benefits of rewarding sustainable actions with enjoyable experiences, such as free concerts.
