Ibiza's authorities have intensified efforts to combat illegal taxi operations, particularly those involving drivers under the influence of drugs. This initiative is part of the Council's Inspection Plan, which aims to regulate vehicles for hire with drivers (VTCs) and ensure passenger safety. A joint operation was conducted early this morning by the Inspection Service of the Department of Transport, alongside local police forces from Ibiza and Santa Eulària. During the operation, a total of 35 vehicles were inspected, leading to the identification of four drivers engaged in illegal passenger transport. These violations resulted in fines totaling €22,004, and all offending vehicles were immobilized and taken to the municipal impound lot. The crackdown highlights the authorities' commitment to maintaining a safe and fair transport environment for both residents and tourists. Rubén Sousa, Public Transport Councilor for Ibiza's capital, emphasized the city's dedication to fighting unfair competition in the transport sector. He stated, “The City Council of Ibiza is firmly committed to fighting unfair competition, acting decisively and forcefully against this scourge.” The operation reflects a broader strategy to ensure compliance with transport regulations and protect legitimate taxi services. At a control point in Santa Eulària, 15 vehicles were inspected, with no illegal activities reported. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by local authorities to enhance the safety and integrity of transportation services in Ibiza, particularly during the busy tourist season.
