Paraguayan Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso has publicly refuted claims that she was expelled from the Olympic Village in Paris due to “inappropriate behavior.” Reports surfaced on Monday suggesting that Alonso, who concluded her Olympic events after failing to reach the semifinals in July, was asked to leave the village for allegedly distracting Team Paraguay. Officials expressed their displeasure over her decision to visit Disneyland Paris instead of supporting her teammates during their competitions. Larissa Schaerer, head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, commented on the situation, stating, “Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.” She acknowledged that Alonso had voluntarily chosen not to spend the night in the Athletes’ Village, thanking her for complying with the request. However, Alonso took to social media to clarify her stance, asserting, “I was never removed or expelled from anywhere, stop spreading false information.” Despite the controversy, Alonso shared her Disneyland experience on Instagram, posting cheerful stories that included her in front of the iconic Disney castle. The 20-year-old swimmer, who also did not secure a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, announced her retirement from competitive swimming following her recent loss. In her farewell message, she expressed gratitude to her supporters and conveyed her decision to step back from representing Paraguay in future Olympic events.
