At the Concorso d’Eleganza in Cernobbio, Italy, BMW unveiled its latest creation, the Concept Speedtop, a striking shooting brake that follows the Concept Skytop. This unique vehicle, a hard-topped variant of the earlier concept, is set for an exclusive production run of just 70 units, with each car expected to sell for approximately half a million dollars. The Concept Speedtop showcases a design evolution rooted in the Calvin Luk-designed Concept Touring revealed at the same prestigious event in 2023. It is powered by BMW's most robust engine to date, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 offering an impressive 625 horsepower, which drives all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF transmission. This powertrain enables the Concept Speedtop to reach speeds of 62 mph in just about 3.3 seconds. Notably, BMW has partnered with the Modena-based luxury leather artisans at Schedoni to create custom luggage specifically designed to fit within the vehicle's leather-lined interior. This attention to detail aims to elevate the ultra-luxury positioning of the car, reinforcing the brand's commitment to craftsmanship and exclusivity. BMW's design boss, Adrian van Hooydonk, emphasized that the Concept Speedtop represents a blend of dynamism and elegance, embodying the essence of a true BMW, even when stationary. The unveiling of this concept car signifies BMW's strategy to enhance brand value through limited-production vehicles, following the successful run of the Concept Skytop, which also garnered significant interest from luxury car collectors.
