Story

Coca-Cola announced on Tuesday an upward revision of its organic sales growth forecast for the year, now expecting an increase of 9% to 10%, compared to the previous estimate of 8% to 9%. The beverage giant reported a 3% revenue increase, totaling $12.4 billion for the second quarter of the year. This growth comes amid significant price hikes, with Coca-Cola raising prices by 13% in the first quarter and an additional 9% during the April-June period, largely driven by hyperinflation in markets like Argentina and Nigeria. In North America, where prices rose by 11%, the company attributed about half of the increase to the sales of premium beverages such as Topo Chico mineral water and Fairlife milk, while the other half stemmed from direct price hikes. CEO James Quincey acknowledged ongoing input cost inflation, particularly in agricultural sectors, but emphasized that the company’s strategy remains focused on passing these costs onto consumers. Despite the overall resilience in consumer demand, Coca-Cola has experienced a decline in North American unit case volume sales, which fell by 1%. This trend has persisted since the latter half of the previous year, with lower-income consumers reportedly seeking greater value through combo meals or reducing their outings. Conversely, in the Asia Pacific region, Coca-Cola's decision to lower prices by 3% resulted in a 3% increase in unit case volume sales. Coca-Cola's net income for the quarter decreased by 5% to $2.4 billion, or 56 cents per share, although this figure surpassed Wall Street's expectations of 81 cents.
