Story

Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports regional networks, is set to terminate its broadcasting contract with the Dallas Mavericks, pending approval from the NBA. An NBA spokesperson confirmed that a new agreement has been reached for the 2024-25 season, allowing Diamond RSNs to telecast local games for 13 NBA teams. However, both the Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans have opted out of continuing their game broadcasts on Diamond RSNs, with further details on alternative viewing options expected soon. Mark Cuban, the Mavericks' alternate governor, previously indicated that the team’s games would not be aired on Bally Sports next season unless a significant change occurred, such as a potential acquisition by Amazon. Although Amazon has partnered with Diamond as part of a debt restructuring plan, Cuban has reiterated that the Mavericks are exploring other avenues to enhance their game distribution. In a recent announcement, the Mavericks revealed their upcoming broadcast schedule, which includes nine games on TNT, nine on ESPN, seven on NBA TV, and five on ABC. The team has stated that a local broadcast schedule will be released at a later date, indicating a shift away from Diamond Sports Group. The future of Diamond Sports Group remains uncertain, as the company must develop a viable Chapter 11 exit plan by the end of the next NBA and NHL seasons to avoid contract terminations.
