CEIS Report Reveals Xi'an's Role in China-Europe Railway Express Growth

On September 23, 2024, the China Economic Information Service (CEIS) released a report detailing the development of China-Europe Railway Express services in Xi'an City over the past decade. This report was unveiled during the China-Europe Railway Express (Xi'an) Global Partners Conference and highlights the city's significant role in enhancing freight transport between China and Europe. The report covers the operational phases of the Xi'an China-Europe Railway Express Assembly Center from its inception in 2013 through its rapid growth and into its current pace-setting stage. The report indicates that Xi'an has improved its freight train operations, with a notable increase in returning trips carrying cargo, which rose to approximately 45% in recent years. It also includes various performance indicators such as service efficiency, cargo packing rates, and total import and export values, showcasing the city's commitment to enhancing its logistics capabilities. The findings reflect Xi'an's strategic initiatives to foster international cooperation and service innovation. In response to evolving global trade dynamics, the Xi'an Assembly Center has introduced new cargo routes that bypass the Caspian Sea and developed multimodal transport solutions combining rail and sea transport. These innovations have established robust freight transport channels between China and Europe, ensuring resilience in logistics operations. The report concludes that Xi'an's proactive approach to opening up and collaborating with Belt and Road partner countries has significantly contributed to the growth of China-Europe Railway Express services, ultimately benefiting a broader audience and enhancing regional economic development.
