Story

Local, minority-owned businesses have seen a significant increase in participation at Terminal 3 of Los Angeles Airport, thanks to new dining and retail units introduced by LAWA, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports, and Delta Air Lines. The initiative has resulted in 22 minority business owners operating at the terminal, achieving 43% participation in food and beverage and 36% in retail, surpassing the set goals of 25% and 20%. This milestone reflects a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in airport concessions. Eboni Wimbush, president and CEO of the Airport Minority Advisory Council, expressed pride in LAX's achievement, highlighting its potential to set a national standard for airport concessions. The collaboration aims to lower barriers for minority businesses, facilitating their access to financial resources and opportunities. Earlier this year, the council partnered with Lendistry to assist minority businesses in securing financing. The new concessions at T3 include a variety of offerings, such as local favorites and celebrity-owned restaurants, enhancing the travel experience for passengers. Notable additions include Alfred, a coffee house operated by a 100% minority-owned business, and other eateries like Fat Sal’s and Yakumi, which are also minority-owned. This diverse mix aims to reflect the best of Los Angeles and cater to the needs of travelers. The modernization project at LAX, valued at $2.3 billion, is part of a broader effort to consolidate terminals and improve facilities. Delta Air Lines, which has a significant share of passenger traffic at the airport, plays a crucial role in this initiative, demonstrating a commitment to supporting local and minority-owned businesses while enhancing the overall airport experience.
