Startups invited to Taiwan for global innovation event

Taiwan has been recognized for its successful Startup Global Program (SGP), which was established by the National Development Council (NDC) to foster entrepreneurship and enhance global innovation. Launched in 2015, the program aims to connect international startups with leading local companies, thereby promoting collaboration in various high-tech sectors including artificial intelligence, 5G networks, and smart energy. This year, the SGP attracted applications from over 3,300 startups across 90 countries, highlighting Taiwan's growing significance as a reliable partner in the global startup ecosystem. In May 2025, 18 teams from 35 countries have been selected to participate in the initiative and will be in Taiwan for the COMPUTEX/InnoVex event, scheduled from May 17 to 24. This serves as a vital platform for startups to showcase their innovations and establish partnerships with influential tech companies. Notable collaborations this year include France-based Wise Integration working with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to create a digital microcontroller using gallium nitride technology, demonstrating the depth of technological engagement facilitated by the program. The success of the SGP is credited to Taiwan's robust semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, a supportive business environment, and a highly skilled talent pool. These factors not only contribute to Taiwan's reputation as a global technology hub but also position it as an appealing destination for startups looking to test their products in the Asian market. The NDC’s Industrial Development Department noted that participation in the initiative can provide startups with access to necessary resources and networking opportunities essential for their growth. With the selected teams poised to meet potential partners from high-tech enterprises such as MediaTek and Quanta Computer, the SGP is seen as a significant stepping stone towards establishing long-term collaborations and innovations that can benefit both local and international companies. The initiative’s increasing popularity reflects Taiwan's commitment to enhancing its status as a breeding ground for global tech startups and international investment.
