Story

MELBOURNE, Australia β€” A passenger was arrested at Melbourne Airport on Thursday after he exited a stationary Jetstar airliner through an emergency exit, walked along the wing, and climbed down a jet engine to the tarmac. The incident occurred after Jetstar Flight JQ507 arrived from Sydney and parked at a terminal gate. Upon opening the emergency exit, a slide was deployed, but the man chose to walk along the wing instead. Witnesses reported that the passenger exhibited erratic behavior prior to the incident, prompting alarm among fellow travelers. Audrey Varghese, a passenger on the flight, described the scene, stating that passengers screamed as the man rushed towards the emergency exit. β€œHe was exhibiting some quite strange behavior,” Varghese recounted, highlighting the chaotic atmosphere as the plane came to a stop. Jetstar staff alerted the Australian Federal Police, who quickly responded to the situation. The man was arrested for alleged aggressive behavior and breaching aircraft safety protocols. Following his arrest, he was assessed by paramedics and taken to a hospital for further evaluation, where he remains under observation. Melbourne Airport officials praised the swift actions of the aircrew and ground staff, emphasizing that their response ensured the safety of other passengers and airport personnel. The police are continuing their investigation, with charges expected to be filed in the near future.
