Law enforcement officials in Moreno Valley have arrested a 13-year-old boy following reports of an online threat directed at Mountain View Middle School. The threat, which included a photo of weapons, prompted multiple calls from concerned parents and students to the Moreno Valley Sheriff's Station shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department classified the post as a "school violence threat," noting that the image was sourced from the internet. The boy was taken into custody at Riverside Juvenile Hall on suspicion of making criminal threats against school employees. Yolanda Coronel, a parent of a student at the school, recounted her daughter's discovery of the alarming post via text message. "We got scared," Coronel said, explaining that they quickly contacted school officials for reassurance. The school responded promptly, assuring parents that safety measures were in place, including an increased police presence on campus. In a statement, sheriff's officials expressed gratitude to the community for reporting the threat and emphasized the importance of vigilance in such situations. "We take these incidents very seriously, and the safety and security of our schools remains a top priority," the department stated. In a related incident, investigators from the Murrieta Police Department arrested a former student for making threats against Warm Spring Middle School on Instagram. Officers seized four firearms from the suspect's home, belonging to a family member, and assured the community that they would remain vigilant in ensuring school safety.
