In the United States, specifically in DuPage County, Illinois, a series of theft incidents occurred on a Friday night, resulting in multiple arrests. Around 8:35 p.m., four individuals, identified as Shavaughn Johnson, D'Errika Thrasher, Alanah Booker, and a 16-year-old girl, entered the Nordstrom Rack store located on West 22nd Street. The group allegedly stole clothing, fragrances, and Mark Jacobs gift boxes valued over $300. Upon their attempt to leave the store without paying, Oak Brook police officers apprehended them outside the premises. While being taken into custody, Shavaughn Johnson allegedly assaulted a police officer, punching him and even biting him. All four suspects have been charged with one count of burglary and one count of retail theft. In addition, Johnson faces an aggravated battery charge due to her violent behavior during the arrest. The teenage girl was released into the custody of her mother, while Johnson, Thrasher, and Booker are scheduled to return to court on January 6. All four defendants have been prohibited from entering the Nordstrom Rack store as one of the conditions of their release. Earlier that same day, another incident occurred at the same store involving Darnella Williams, a 19-year-old from Maywood. At approximately 7 p.m., Williams entered the store carrying an empty child car seat, which she proceeded to fill with merchandise worth $716.87, including clothing and cosmetics. To conceal her theft, she draped a blanket over the filled car seat. After exiting the store, she was confronted by a loss prevention officer and subsequently taken into custody. Darnella Williams was also charged with one count of burglary and one count of retail theft, and she was released on her own recognizance. The DuPage State's Attorney, Robert Berlin, emphasized the seriousness of such criminal activities, especially in the context of the holiday season, declaring that law enforcement will not tolerate actions that threaten public safety or disrupt businesses in the area.
