PM Modi inaugurates key port and development projects in India

On May 1 and 2, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook official engagements in India, focusing on infrastructure and development projects that span Maharashtra, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. The visit commenced in Maharashtra, where the Prime Minister inaugurated WAVES 2025, the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. Described as India's first-of-its-kind summit in the audiovisual sector, WAVES aims to transform India into a global hub for media, entertainment, and digital innovation by showcasing its diverse industry capabilities and unlocking significant market potential by 2029. Following the events in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Modi traveled to Kerala on May 2, where he dedicated the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport. Developed at a cost of ₹8,900 crore, this port serves as India’s first dedicated container transshipment facility and operates on one of the busiest global shipping routes, enhancing India's maritime infrastructure and cargo handling capacity. The strategic positioning and natural draft depth of the port are expected to reduce reliance on foreign transshipment hubs, signifying India’s ambition to become a key player in global trade logistics. Later, the Prime Minister continued his journey to Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple development projects totaling over ₹58,000 crore. These projects include the initiation of seven National Highway projects aimed at improving interstate travel and easing traffic congestion, as well as railway connectivity enhancements. Among these railway projects is the doubling of the line between Bugganapalle Cement Nagar and Panyam stations, which intends to foster connectivity in the Rayalaseema region. Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation for critical infrastructure that integrates a transport network developed under the Land Pooling Scheme. Overall, the Prime Minister's visit and the inaugurated projects exemplify India's ongoing commitment to bolstering its infrastructure, economic growth, and connectivity, aiming to elevate its standing on the global stage in terms of trade and logistics.
