ROHM Semiconductor and Valeo collaborate to optimize electric motor inverters
- ROHM Semiconductor and Valeo are collaborating to enhance the next generation of power modules for electric motor inverters.
- The partnership combines Valeo's expertise in automotive technology and ROHM's power electronics management.
- The collaboration aims to improve efficiency and performance of electric vehicles and establish industry standards for high voltage inverters.
On November 26, 2024, ROHM Semiconductor and Valeo announced an important collaboration aimed at optimizing the next generation of power modules specifically designed for electric motor inverters. This partnership leverages the combined strengths of both companies in power electronics, thermal management, and mechatronics to enhance the efficiency and performance of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). The collaboration began in 2022, focusing on technical exchanges to improve motor inverter performance, a critical component in propulsion systems for electric vehicles. ROHM will initially supply its 2-in-1 Silicon Carbide (SiC) molded module TRCDRIVE pack to Valeo for the electric powertrain solutions. Valeo's approach to innovation aims at broadening access to electrified mobility, ranging from ebikes to eTrucks. They are particularly focused on developing efficient and effective solutions to meet the rising demand for electric mobility, which calls for longer range and faster charging capabilities. The two companies are set on establishing new industry standards for high voltage inverters, pushing towards more efficient and affordable electric mobility solutions. Valeo plans to initiate its first series project with these advancements in early 2026, reinforcing both companies' commitment to contributing to a decarbonized society and the automotive industry's shift towards electrification.
