Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh – Students from Pardesipura Government Urdu Girls Higher Secondary School staged a protest on Monday, demanding the appointment of Urdu teachers. Accompanied by their relatives, the students expressed frustration over being taught in Hindi and English, languages they struggle to understand. They presented applications for transfer certificates (TCs), insisting that if the school cannot provide adequate Urdu instruction, they should be allowed to transfer to another institution. The protest highlighted a long-standing issue, as parents reported that their requests for Urdu teachers have gone unaddressed for an extended period. With the school being the only Urdu medium higher secondary institution in the district, the lack of qualified teachers has become increasingly problematic. Parents emphasized the importance of having educators who can read and write Urdu, especially since exams are conducted in the language. The school management intervened during the protest, promising to discuss the matter with the district education officer (DEO) in hopes of finding a resolution. Parents have consistently raised this issue in parent-teacher association meetings, expressing concerns that non-Urdu speaking teachers may not effectively support students in an Urdu medium environment. The protesters urged the school administration to take immediate action to rectify the teacher shortage, warning that the educational future of the students hangs in the balance. The situation underscores the critical need for language-appropriate education in a diverse linguistic landscape.
