Scottish Island Adventure: Indie Game "Tears of Metal" Unveiled

A new indie game titled "Tears of Metal," directed by Raphaël Toulouse, is set against the backdrop of a Scottish island featuring a mysterious rock known as the Dragon Stone. The narrative follows a rogue English general who, upon discovering the stone, ignites a conflict that prompts the Scottish people to rally and reclaim their territory. Players will assume the role of a Scottish battalion leader, engaging in combat against English forces while navigating a storyline that evolves into a post-apocalyptic scenario. The gameplay emphasizes strategic combat rather than mere button mashing, allowing players to start with a small group of soldiers and recruit more as they progress. Toulouse highlights the importance of character development, noting that players must act quickly to save beloved characters from permanent loss. This dynamic adds a layer of urgency and emotional investment to the game. The choice of medieval Scotland as the setting was influenced by marketing considerations, with Toulouse citing his admiration for the film "Braveheart" as a key factor. The French-Canadian studio, Paper Cult, has dedicated four years to developing "Tears of Metal," which is still in progress with a tentative release date set for next year. Since its reveal at the Summer Game Fest in June, the game has garnered significant attention, amassing over 100,000 wishlists on Steam. Toulouse expressed excitement over the enthusiastic response, noting that the game has already surpassed the lifetime wishlist count of their previous title, "Bloodroots."
