Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited have formed a teaming agreement to enhance their collaboration on the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter. This agreement, announced on September 10, 2024, in Delhi, aims to support India's Medium Transport Aircraft Program and establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India. The MRO facility will cater to the Indian Air Force's existing fleet of 12 C-130Js and other global Super Hercules fleets. The partnership also includes plans to expand C-130J manufacturing and assembly in India, contingent upon approvals from the U.S. and Indian governments. Lockheed Martin will continue to produce C-130Js for the U.S. government and other international operators at its facility in Marietta, Georgia. This agreement signifies Tata Advanced Systems' entry into the defense MRO sector for large aircraft, further solidifying the relationship between the two companies. The Indian Air Force is actively pursuing the acquisition of up to 80 medium transport aircraft, having issued a request for information last year. The collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership established in 2010 through the Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Ltd. joint venture, which has been instrumental in supporting India's "Make in India" initiative. The C-130J is recognized for its versatility and has logged over 3 million flight hours across various mission requirements. This agreement not only enhances India's defense capabilities but also reflects Lockheed Martin's commitment to fostering a self-reliant defense industry in India, showcasing confidence in local partnerships and the Indian aerospace sector.
