Story

In a significant move to combat plastic pollution, Sands has launched a campaign urging individuals and organizations to reduce plastic use and eliminate waste. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Environmental Programme's alarming statistic that 400 million tons of plastic waste are generated annually, with 36% attributed to packaging, particularly single-use items. Sands has identified addressing plastic and packaging as a key environmental priority, focusing on sustainable alternatives and responsible waste management. A major aspect of Sands' plastic reduction strategy involves transitioning from single-use plastic water bottles to more sustainable options. By the end of 2023, the company successfully integrated sustainable solutions into 61% of its branded water bottles. Notably, Marina Bay Sands has achieved a complete transition to recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) for its branded water bottles and is exploring reusable options across various applications. Additionally, trials for water dispensers featuring reusable glass bottles are underway in ten restaurants at The Londoner Macao. Sands is also tackling plastic use in its laundry services, where single-use disposables have been prevalent. Marina Bay Sands has implemented reusable laundry bags for uniform washes, which is expected to eliminate over 13,000 single-use plastic bags each year. The company emphasizes its commitment to the goals of Plastic Free July, reinforcing its dedication to advancing sustainable practices and reducing plastic reliance across its operations.
