Slovenia demonstrated a strong endorsement of the euro according to the latest Eurobarometer survey conducted between October 7 and 15, 2024. The survey, which included 1,011 respondents from Slovenia as part of a total of 18,637 participants from 20 euro area countries, revealed that a significant majority of Slovenian respondents—86 percent—view the euro positively for the EU, while 81 percent believe it benefits Slovenia. Additionally, 92 percent of Slovenian participants find that the euro simplifies price comparisons and shopping across EU nations, exceeding the EU average of 81 percent. Similarly, 90 percent of respondents in Slovenia believe that the euro facilitates business operations within the EU, compared to a general 79 percent support at the European level. Moreover, the Eurobarometer survey assessed the Recovery and Resilience Instrument, aimed at providing member states 650 billion euros via grants and loans to aid in recovery efforts. While 68 percent of all respondents supported the mechanism, 62 percent of Slovenes echoed this sentiment, indicating a general favor towards collaborative economic recovery within the EU. The survey also gathered views on inflation expectations, revealing that 42 percent of Slovenians anticipate rising inflation this year, while 26 percent expect it to remain unchanged, and 24 percent foresee a decrease. The significance of these findings reflects a positive sentiment toward the euro’s role in facilitating commerce and investment in the single market, especially in Slovenia where respondents recognize the euro's advantages in their daily economic activities. The high support for both the euro and the recovery instrument underlines a collective confidence in the European economic framework and the potential benefits it brings to Slovenian citizens amidst ongoing economic challenges. This backdrop sets a foundation for continued public discourse regarding the euro's impact on Slovenia's economic landscape. The Eurobarometer survey holds particular relevance as it tracks public sentiment on key issues affecting the EU and its member states. By focusing on personal economic experiences—such as shopping, business, and inflation expectations—it offers insights into broader public attitudes towards EU initiatives and policies. The results signal a clear trend in Slovenia towards embracing the euro and supporting collective measures aimed at economic recovery that resonate with the ongoing discussions in the EU.
