- Heathrow Airport set a new monthly record with nearly eight million passengers in August.
- The increase is driven by popular holiday destinations and the Taylor Swift concerts, which added 40,000 passengers.
- The airport is on track to serve 30 million passengers between June and September, the highest in its history.
Heathrow Airport has reported a record surge in passenger numbers, with nearly eight million travelers passing through its terminals in August alone. This increase is attributed to a combination of popular European holiday destinations such as Spain, Greece, Italy, and Turkey, as well as the influx of fans attending the Taylor Swift concerts during her European Eras Tour, which added approximately 40,000 passengers. The airport's busiest day occurred on August 18, when 269,000 passengers were recorded. The airport is on track to serve 30 million passengers between June and September, marking the highest number for this period in its history. This represents an increase of one million passengers compared to the same timeframe in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The chief executive, Thomas Woldbye, expressed gratitude towards the staff for their dedication and preparation, which has been crucial in managing the increased passenger flow while maintaining service quality. In addition to Heathrow, the Manchester Airports Group also experienced a record-breaking summer, with nearly seven million passengers in August, reflecting a 6.6% increase from the previous year. Manchester and Stansted airports recorded their busiest months ever, with 3.4 million and 3.1 million passengers, respectively. These developments highlight a significant rebound in air travel as restrictions ease and demand for international travel rises, contributing positively to the UK economy and the aviation sector's recovery.
