Truck driver faces manslaughter charges after fatal Texas crash

The incident happened around 2:40 p.m. when Gonzalez-Companioni failed to notice stalled traffic and collided with a Ford F-150 that was carrying five people. This initial collision triggered a chain reaction involving two other 18-wheelers and several other vehicles, intensifying the severity of the crash and causing widespread destruction. Emergency responders described the scene as "horrific," designating it a "mass casualty" event as they quickly worked to assist those injured. Another victim, a person in an SUV which was struck as a result of the jackknife caused by Gonzalez-Companioni's truck, also died from injuries sustained during the collision. Following the accident, Gonzalez-Companioni, who is reported to be a Cuban national and unable to speak English, was taken into custody in Kaufman County. He was subsequently charged with multiple offenses, including five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
