14-year-old girl stabs teachers and pupil in Welsh school playground

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with multiple offenses after a violent incident at Amman Valley School in Carmarthenshire, Wales, on April 24. During the morning break, she allegedly stabbed two teachers and a fellow pupil, leading to a significant emergency response. The school, which has around 1,500 students, was placed on lockdown for four hours, with students taking refuge in toilets and cupboards as a 'Code Red' alert was issued. The headteacher commended the calmness of both staff and students during the crisis. The girl appeared in Swansea Crown Court via video link, facing seven charges, including three counts of attempted murder. While she has denied the attempted murder charges, she has pleaded guilty to lesser charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The prosecution indicated that there may be up to 19 witnesses, although this number could be reduced as the trial approaches. The trial is scheduled to begin on September 30 and is expected to last two weeks, with witness testimonies starting on October 2. The prosecution anticipates that the evidence will be presented in a concise manner, lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The defense is represented by Caroline Rees KC, while William Hughes KC is leading the prosecution. Following the incident, the injured teachers, Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkin, along with the pupil, have been released from the hospital.
