In St. Paul, Minnesota, thousands of volunteers, including notable celebrities, are participating in a significant construction effort for Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. This initiative marks the beginning of the nonprofit's largest development project, which aims to address the city's housing crisis. The construction, part of the 2024 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, coincides with the 100th birthday celebration of former President Jimmy Carter, a prominent supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Over the course of five days, approximately 4,000 volunteers will work to build 30 affordable homes in a new community called "The Heights" on the east side of St. Paul. The project is a complex undertaking, requiring meticulous planning to manage logistics, including volunteer coordination, meal provision, and tool distribution. Former St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, now the president and CEO of Twin Cities Habitat, emphasized the scale and importance of this project in alleviating housing shortages in the area. To celebrate the efforts and honor President Carter, a special event called the Build Forward Bash will take place at The Armory, featuring emcee Jonathan Scott and performances from various musical acts. This initiative not only aims to provide housing but also fosters community spirit and engagement among volunteers from Minnesota and beyond.
