Art Exhibit by Recovery Artists in Wolverhampton

An inspiring art exhibition titled "Recovery is for Everyone" will open at the Newhampton Arts Centre (NAC) in Wolverhampton on September 13, featuring works from individuals recovering from addiction, mental health issues, and homelessness. The exhibition, which follows nine months of workshops, will culminate in a special event at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery on September 27, showcasing two film premieres that explore the themes of art and recovery, alongside live performances and spoken word. Organized by the Good Shepherd charity in collaboration with various partners, the exhibition aims to celebrate Recovery Month in September. The workshops, which included disciplines such as drawing, painting, ceramics, and digital art, were made possible through a £27,000 grant from Arts Council England. Participants received guidance from professional artists, fostering a creative environment for those at different stages of their recovery journeys. Kate Penman, a community engagement worker at Good Shepherd, expressed her admiration for the collaboration and the diverse range of participants involved. She emphasized the significant role art plays in recovery, allowing individuals to express their stories and visions. Penman described the experience as "nothing short of incredible," highlighting the empowerment that comes from showcasing their talents. The exhibition will be open daily until September 26, inviting the community to engage with the powerful narratives and artistic expressions of those on the path to recovery.
