- The update aims to enhance user experience and streamline the content curation process.
In an effort to enhance user experience, Max is launching an update that includes autoplaying video previews for its shows and movies. This service is currently being rolled out in the United States, with the introduction of an AI-assisted tool designed to select which movie clips are featured in the previews. By identifying standout scenes within Max's vast library, this AI technology aims to streamline the process of curating content, minimizing the manual effort previously required. Warner Bros. Discovery's chief technology officer, Avi Saxena, emphasized that the AI-driven system, dubbed Drop-in Moments, will significantly reduce the manual curation times. The AI technology not only selects scenes but also assists in displaying them in a more engaging manner for viewers as they browse through the platform's offerings. The goal is to draw in users more effectively, akin to how Netflix approaches its previews. In addition to the video previews feature, users will have the option to disable the audio or video from the autoplaying content, providing a similar user choice as found on Netflix. This move aligns with recent updates that adjusted the interface of Max, moving user options for navigating and selecting content from the top menu to the left side of the screen, indicating a strategic direction that contrasts with competitors. As Max evolves, it is also noted that it will revert to its former branding, HBO Max, in the near future. This rebranding is expected to coincide with additional updates and functionalities that the platform aims to introduce this summer, enhancing its competitive edge in the streaming industry.
