Story

In December 2024, McIntosh, a renowned American audio brand, announced the release of its latest product, the MSA5500, an all-in-one network streamer and amplifier. This device is designed to cater to audiophiles seeking high-quality sound in compact living spaces. The MSA5500 features a built-in amplifier that delivers 100W per channel and includes numerous connectivity options for a seamless audio experience. It supports various streaming technologies, including Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Google Cast, and TIDAL Connect, with TIDAL HiFi Lossless Quality. To enhance sound quality, the MSA5500 is equipped with an audiophile-grade, Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit DAC that promises an impressive dynamic range and low distortion. The Bluetooth capabilities of the unit support high-resolution audio codecs such as AAC, Qualcomm aptX HD, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive, allowing users to stream high-quality audio from their smartphones and tablets. In terms of connectivity, the device offers seven digital and five analog audio inputs, making it versatile for various audio components, including CD players, FM tuners, and vinyl turntables. Additionally, it includes an HDMI ARC input, enabling a connection to modern smart TVs for enhanced home theater sound. The MSA5500 also includes features like McIntosh’s Gold-plated Solid Cinch speaker binding posts and options for headphone use with its Crossfeed Director and Power Control functionality. The design is not only about high performance but also retains the classic aesthetics associated with the McIntosh brand, appealing to users looking for quality and style in their audio equipment. Furthermore, the design allows for future upgrades; users can bypass the internal amplifier and use the pre-out with a more powerful external amplifier. Scheduled to launch in January 2025 in the UK, the MSA5500 will be available through Fine Sounds UK and authorized McIntosh dealers globally. With this introduction, McIntosh aims to solidify its position in the high-end audio market, providing audiophiles with a powerful and versatile integrated amplifier that meets modern streaming needs while retaining the brand’s signature sound quality and aesthetics.
