EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Cornerback Kristian Fulton is determined to prove himself as a reliable starter during his first training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers. After four seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Fulton, who was drafted in the second round out of LSU in 2021, is looking to regain his confidence following a challenging previous season. He played only 11 games last year, hampered by a hamstring injury that limited his performance and led to a significant increase in completion rates against him. Chargers defensive coordinator Derek Minter has observed a positive shift in Fulton’s mindset, noting that he is beginning to regain his confidence and comfort on the field. Minter emphasized that Fulton is motivated to silence his critics and is actively working to enhance team dynamics by understanding his teammates' roles, which allows for improved overall performance. Fulton’s ability to communicate effectively is seen as a key asset for the defensive unit. Despite facing challenges, including a high number of pass interference penalties, Fulton is focused on turning his career around. His teammate, Asante Samuel Jr., has also faced similar issues but has shown promise with six interceptions in his first three seasons. Minter expressed optimism about the defensive unit's progress, especially following a strong performance in joint practices with the Rams, indicating that the team is building confidence as they prepare for the upcoming season.
