Story

An elderly man was violently assaulted at a busy Lower Manhattan subway station during the evening commute on August 10, according to police reports. The 71-year-old victim attempted to enter an elevator at the Broadway-Lafayette subway station around 7:45 p.m. when a stranger blocked his way. The assailant not only prevented the man from entering but also physically attacked him, shoving him and delivering multiple punches to his face. The assault caused the elderly man to fall, resulting in a head injury after he struck the platform. Emergency services transported him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for a cut on his head, along with bruising and swelling on his face. Fortunately, he was reported to be in stable condition following the incident. The New York Police Department (NYPD) has released a surveillance image of the suspect, who was seen wearing a red and black Atlanta Hawks jacket, black pants, and white sneakers while pushing a hand truck. As of Friday, the attacker remains at large, prompting authorities to seek assistance from the public. Anyone with information regarding this brutal attack is encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The police are urging the community to help in identifying the suspect to ensure justice for the victim.
