Two teenagers in Castle Rock, Colorado, are facing charges after allegedly shooting water beads at individuals outside Castle View High School with a toy gun. The incident occurred late Friday morning, prompting a swift response from school resource officers who were alerted to the disturbance around 11:30 a.m. In light of the situation, the Douglas County School District placed the high school on secure status to ensure student safety. Upon questioning the teenagers, who were reportedly at the school to pick up a student, officers discovered a real, unloaded firearm in their vehicle. The police stated that the teens admitted to possessing both the toy gun used for shooting water beads and the actual firearm. Water beads, often fired from toy guns known as water bead blasters, can resemble airsoft guns, which may have contributed to the initial confusion regarding the nature of the incident. One of the suspects, an 18-year-old, was arrested and taken to jail, although their identity has not been disclosed. The second suspect, a juvenile, was released from custody but will also face charges related to the incident. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, emphasizing the importance of safety in school environments and the potential risks associated with toy guns that resemble real firearms.
