WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, has rolled out a significant update this week, introducing animated stickers sourced from GIPHY, a well-known GIF platform. According to a blog post from Meta, this integration allows users to discover and share engaging stickers without leaving the app. The update comes as WhatsApp celebrates reaching 100 million users in the United States, further solidifying its position in the competitive messaging landscape. U.S. users can access the new GIPHY features by updating their app through the App Store. Previously, users could send GIFs from GIPHY within the app, but the latest update expands this functionality to include animated stickers. Users can now search for stickers using keywords or emojis, enhancing the overall messaging experience. The update also introduces a “custom sticker maker” feature for Android users, which has been available to iOS users for some time. This tool allows users to create personalized stickers from their camera roll or modify existing stickers using various editing options. This feature aims to foster creativity and personalization in user interactions. Additionally, Meta has incorporated an AI-driven option for users who cannot find the desired GIF. This feature enables users to create custom stickers with the help of Meta AI. All stickers can be organized in a customizable dashboard known as a “sticker tray,” making it easier for users to manage their sticker collections. The AI sticker feature is currently accessible to both iPhone and Android users in the U.S.
