BMW Issues Recall for Over 720,000 Vehicles Due to Fire Risk

BMW has announced a significant recall affecting more than 720,000 vehicles due to a potential fire hazard linked to the water pump's electrical connector. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified that certain models, including the X1, X3, and X5, are at risk due to insufficient sealing of the water pumps. This defect may allow fluid to enter the electrical plug connector over time, increasing the likelihood of a short circuit and, in rare instances, a fire. The NHTSA report highlights that the affected vehicles will undergo inspections of the water pumps and plug connectors, with replacements being made as necessary. To further mitigate the risk, BMW plans to install a protective shield designed to redirect any fluid that may leak from the positive crankcase ventilation system’s intake air house away from the pump. Owners of the impacted vehicles can expect to receive recall notifications in October, detailing the necessary steps to address the issue. BMW has emphasized that the repairs will be conducted at no cost to the vehicle owners, who are encouraged to visit authorized BMW service centers for the required remedies.
