BOSTON - The iconic Allston music venue, Great Scott, is making plans to reopen after closing its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally established in 1976, the club has been a launching pad for numerous artists who later achieved stardom. The new location will be approximately half a mile from its original site, which has since been transformed into a Taco Bell Cantina. The new venue will be situated at the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Cambridge Street. The revitalized Great Scott will be part of a mixed-use development that will also feature retail spaces, apartments, and O'Brien's Pub, which has long been associated with the club. The new Great Scott is designed to accommodate 300 patrons, while O'Brien's Pub will have a capacity of 75. Ownership expressed their commitment to preserving Great Scott's legacy as a cultural hub in Allston, blending its historical charm with modern elements. The timeline for reopening is contingent on a permitting and design process that could take up to nine months, followed by approximately 18 months of construction. The owners are aiming for a grand opening in 2026. Great Scott has hosted notable artists such as Jack Harlow, MGMT, Phoebe Bridgers, and Charli XCX, contributing significantly to the local music scene. To support the construction of the new venue, a crowdfunding campaign successfully raised over $300,000. Ownership emphasized that the return of Great Scott is essential for nurturing future music legends and maintaining Allston's vibrant musical tradition.
