VIP Alcohol Service at Intuit Dome Could Last Until 4 a.m

A new bill, AB 3206, is advancing through the California Legislature, aiming to extend alcohol service hours for VIP suite holders at the Intuit Dome, the home of the Los Angeles Clippers. The state Senate has already passed the bill, which now moves to the Assembly for further consideration. The initiative is backed by Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, with his company, Murphy's Bowl, sponsoring the legislation. The Intuit Dome, a state-of-the-art venue with a capacity of 17,700, features multiple basketball courts, a practice facility, and various amenities, including an outdoor plaza with bars and VIP suites. The proposed bill specifically targets alcohol service in a designated private area of the arena, limited to 2,500 square feet, and would only apply during the hours immediately following major events, such as sporting events or concerts. If approved, the extended alcohol service would be permitted until 4 a.m., a significant change from California's current alcohol regulations, which restrict sales to between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m. daily. The bill includes a sunset provision, setting an expiration date for the extended hours on January 1, 2030. Proponents argue that the change would enhance the VIP experience at the venue, while critics may raise concerns about the implications of later alcohol service.
