Volkswagen is set to launch the 2025 ID Buzz, a fully electric homage to the classic Microbus, in the United States later this year. The base Pro S model will start at $59,995, reflecting a significant increase from the original 1967 VW Type 2, which cost around $2,575—equivalent to approximately $25,300 today. Despite the higher price tag, the ID Buzz offers advanced technology and features that cater to modern consumers. The ID Buzz boasts an EPA-estimated range of 234 miles for the rear-drive configuration, while the dual-motor 4Motion all-wheel-drive version offers a slightly lower range of 231 miles. The entry-level model accommodates up to seven passengers with its spacious second- and third-row bench seats. Notably, the U.S. version has a longer wheelbase than its European counterpart, enhancing passenger comfort. Standard features in the Pro S model include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless App-Connect for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the IQ Drive driver assistance package. For those seeking additional luxury, the Pro S Plus variant is available for $63,495, with an optional all-wheel-drive upgrade that raises the price to $67,995. This upgrade also changes the seating configuration to captain's chairs, reducing capacity to six. The limited First Edition model, priced at $65,495 for rear-drive and $69,995 for 4Motion, includes exclusive features like an electrochromic glass roof, which can switch from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button. This model sets the stage for the ID Buzz's entry into the competitive electric vehicle market.
