Austin Butler experiences temporary blindness after intense filming

In recent months, Austin Butler, the 34-year-old actor, experienced severe health issues that included temporary blindness and hospitalization after completing high-profile film projects. The medical troubles began following his work on the biopic about Elvis Presley directed by Baz Luhrmann. Butler reported waking up in extreme pain, initially suspecting a possible appendicitis, which led to his hospitalization for a week while he recovered. The situation escalated further while traveling to the set of 'The Bikeriders,' where Butler suffered from an overwhelmingly painful migraine that resulted in sudden blindness. Despite feeling a euphoric sensation during this episode and believing he was on the brink of death, he chose not to seek immediate medical attention. Butler attributed his health difficulties to extreme sleep deprivation combined with the pressures of his work. During his promotional activities for 'Dune: Part Two,' Butler started to exhibit unusual physical symptoms, including walking with his toes curled under, which lasted for eight months. After consulting a doctor, he discovered a shard of glass lodged in his foot, which he described as being the size of a grain of rice. After these distressing experiences, Butler recognized the necessity to shift his approach to work. The actor has emphasized striking a balance between his career and personal wellbeing, indicating that easing the pressure he puts on himself to achieve perfection has been instrumental in addressing his health concerns. He credits mentor Laura Dern for teaching him that delivering outstanding performances doesn't require compromising his health. Butler has since found ways to incorporate rest and social time into his busy Hollywood schedule.
