In 2022, Volkswagen established its battery arm, PowerCo, with ambitious plans to build six battery cell gigafactories by 2030, aiming for a total annual production capacity of 240 GWh. Recently, PowerCo signed a five-year contract with Novonix, an Australian firm specializing in synthetic graphite production, for a total of 32,000 tonnes of graphite anode material slated to begin delivery in 2027.
