Story

Jake Paul, the controversial social media star turned boxer, has announced his intention to pursue a spot on the U.S. Olympic Boxing team for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. This announcement comes on the heels of a disappointing performance by the U.S. boxing team at the recent Paris Olympics, where only one medal was secured—a bronze by Omari Jones, who lost in the welterweight semifinals. Paul expressed his frustration with the current state of U.S. boxing, stating, “I’m sick and tired of waiting for another gold (medal) for Team USA.” In a YouTube video, Paul emphasized his dual ambitions of becoming a world champion and winning an Olympic gold medal. “Being a world champion is first and foremost, and then second is a gold medal,” he declared, indicating that he is not considering retirement anytime soon. His commitment to the sport is evident as he prepares for his next fight scheduled for November 15 against boxing legend Mike Tyson. The upcoming bout against Tyson, who is 58 years old, has drawn criticism due to the significant age gap between the two fighters. Paul, at 27, holds a professional record of 9-1, with his only loss coming from Tommy Fury, the first trained boxer he faced. Tyson, on the other hand, boasts a storied career with 50 wins and only six losses, including a recent exhibition victory against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
