Ukraine launches 144 drones in overnight attack on Russia

On Tuesday, Russia's Defense Ministry reported the downing of 144 Ukrainian drones during a significant overnight operation that affected nine regions in western Russia, including the Moscow area. This incident marked a notable escalation in the ongoing conflict, with the ministry labeling the drone strikes as a "terrorist attack using unmanned aerial vehicles." The Bryansk region experienced the highest number of downed drones, with 72 reported, followed by Kursk and Tula with 14 and 13, respectively. The attack resulted in civilian casualties, with a 46-year-old woman killed in Ramenskoye when a drone struck a residential building. This incident represents the first confirmed death of a Moscow resident due to a Ukrainian drone attack. Additionally, three other individuals were injured and required hospitalization, while 43 people were relocated to temporary accommodation centers due to damage to their homes. The drone strikes also disrupted operations at three of Moscow's four airports, with debris from a downed drone landing on the runway of Zhukovsky International Airport. Emergency services were deployed to manage the aftermath of the incident, which included drone fragments falling on a residential area in Troitsk, although no casualties were reported there. In response to the drone attacks, Ukraine's air force reported that Russia continued its long-range missile strikes on Ukraine, including the use of Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Shahed attack drones. Air raid alerts were activated across 13 regions in Ukraine, indicating a heightened state of alert amid ongoing hostilities.
