In a landmark philanthropic effort, billionaire Michael R. Bloomberg has announced a $600 million donation to the United States' four historically Black medical schools. This unprecedented contribution, facilitated through Bloomberg Philanthropies, aims to bolster the endowments of Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Howard University College of Medicine, which collectively play a crucial role in training a significant number of Black physicians. Each of the three institutions will receive $175 million, marking what is believed to be the largest single donation to any historically Black college or university (HBCU). This surpasses the previous record set by Spelman College, which received a $100 million gift earlier this year.
