Ford allows select media to experience the game-changing Mustang GTD

In September 2025, Ford introduced its highly anticipated Mustang GTD, a performance-focused vehicle designed in conjunction with a GT3 racecar and the chassis experts at Multimatic. This model is part of a legacy that dates back to the original Mustang introduced in the 1960s, which popularized the pony car era. The GTD features a supercharged 5.2-liter Predator engine delivering 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, making it a powerhouse on both public roads and race tracks. To gain ownership of a GTD, potential buyers had to apply for an allocation, highlighting the exclusivity of this model. At the end of summer 2025, selected media representatives were invited to experience the capabilities of the Mustang GTD at the Thermal Club in Southern California. During this event, the media tested the car on a 3.067-mile IndyCar configuration, reaching impressive speeds while also experiencing some technical issues like faults in the active aerodynamics system. Despite these minor setbacks, the overall performance showcased the car’s advanced engineering and high-speed capabilities. Ford's attention to detail included a custom eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle, contributing to ideal weight distribution that enhances handling and driving dynamics. The GTD is equipped with carbon-ceramic brake rotors, which provide exceptional braking power.
