In a shocking incident in Bhiwandi, Thane district, a 35-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of a 74-year-old woman, Sevamary Augustin Nadar. The police reported that the crime occurred on August 14, when Abhimanyu Gupta attacked Nadar in her home, slitting her throat before stealing her gold jewellery. Following the murder, Gupta reportedly set the house ablaze in an attempt to destroy any evidence of his crime. According to police officials, Gupta's motive stemmed from a severe addiction to online gambling, which had led him to lose over Rs 2 lakh. This financial desperation prompted him to plan the robbery at Nadar's residence. The investigation revealed that Gupta had previously worked at a dairy owned by Nadar's son, giving him insight into the family's routines and vulnerabilities. The police were able to trace Gupta to a lodge in Thane, where he was apprehended on Saturday. He has been charged with murder and other related offences.
