- This move aims to connect with a tech-savvy audience and boost voter engagement.
The Kamala Harris campaign is set to launch a dedicated Twitch channel, aiming to stream the vice president’s acceptance speech on Thursday. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to connect with younger and harder-to-reach voters through digital platforms. The Twitch account, under the handle “kamalaharris,” complements the campaign’s existing presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. According to campaign spokesperson Seth Schuster, this speech represents a pivotal moment in the campaign, and the goal is to deliver the vice president’s message directly to voters across various online spaces. The Harris-Walz campaign has made significant investments in digital outreach, employing over 175 staff members focused on digital organizing, content creation, and advertising. Following Harris's rise to the top of the Democratic ticket, the rebranded KamalaHQ TikTok account saw a remarkable increase in followers, growing fivefold in just one week. The content related to Harris garnered an impressive 232 million views and 33 million likes, showcasing the campaign's effective engagement with the digital audience. In a notable first, the Democratic National Convention (DNC) has credentialed 200 independent creators to cover the event, allowing them to interview key political figures, including DNC chair Jaime Harrison. This move reflects a shift towards inclusivity in political coverage, aiming to broaden the conversation and reach diverse voter demographics. The Harris campaign's digital strategy underscores the importance of innovative approaches in modern political campaigning.
