Story

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday that three suspects accused of murdering Oakland officer Tuan Le will proceed to trial. Following a preliminary hearing, the judge determined there was sufficient evidence to support the case against Sebron Russell, Mark Demetrious, and Allen Starr Brown. The DA stated that the court found the prosecution demonstrated that the defendants "knew or should have known" Officer Le was a peace officer performing his duties at the time of the incident. Each suspect faces multiple charges related to the murder. Demetrious is charged with murder, including special allegations of personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, as well as the murder of a peace officer engaged in his duties, drive-by murder, and second-degree burglary. Brown is similarly charged with murder and special allegations, along with second-degree burglary. Russell faces charges of murder with a special allegation of felony murder and three counts of second-degree burglary. The trial for the three suspects is scheduled to begin on August 28. Additionally, a fourth suspect, Marquis Copper, was determined not to be a "major participant" in the killing but will still face trial for three counts of second-degree burglary. The case has garnered significant attention as it highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
