Story

In Sagar city, Madhya Pradesh, the Moti Nagar police conducted a raid on a house at Shanischari Chowki, leading to the arrest of nine individuals involved in online cricket betting. The operation took place on a Monday, with the police acting on information that the suspects were engaged in illegal gambling activities. Among those arrested, seven were from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, while two were local residents of Sagar. The group was reportedly betting on various cricket matches, including a recent Indo-Bangla match. During the investigation, the police discovered that the gamblers maintained two registers documenting their betting activities, which indicated the scale of their operations, amounting to crores of rupees. The authorities confiscated a significant amount of evidence, including 19 bank passbooks, 13 cheque books, 26 ATM cards, three laptops, and 22 mobile phones, valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh. This haul underscores the organized nature of the betting racket. The in-charge of the Moti Nagar police station, Jashwant Singh Rajput, revealed that the arrested individuals had connections with local police stations, suggesting a broader network of illegal gambling. One of the suspects, Sanket Jain, admitted to running online betting operations under the guise of a Share Market Advisory Centre. This revelation prompted further investigations into the gambling network. The police are now working to identify additional individuals involved in the racket by analyzing call details. The case highlights the ongoing issue of illegal betting in India, prompting law enforcement to intensify their efforts to combat such activities.
