Fort Worth firefighter injured as roof collapses during apartment fire

In Fort Worth, Texas, an apartment fire broke out early on the morning of April 5, 2025, around 2:30 a.m. Emergency crews responded to the blaze that affected the first and second floors of an apartment building on Las Vegas Trail. The firefighters faced challenging conditions, as they had to contend with severe weather, including strong winds, heavy rain, and continuous lightning. Amid the firefighting efforts, an overhanging roof collapsed, leading to injuries for one of the firefighters. Fellow crew members quickly rescued him, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital by MedStar, where he was treated for minor injuries and later released. As the situation escalated with the storm’s intensity, a second alarm was sounded, prompting the fire department to adopt a defensive strategy. This approach was essential in bringing the fire under control and preventing further damage. Although six to eight units sustained damage from the flames, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Initial assessments indicate that the fire itself is not related to the severe weather conditions affecting the area at that time. Approximately 14 residents were displaced due to the incident. In addition to the injured firefighter, one resident required treatment for injuries sustained during the event but was attended to on the scene without needing further hospitalization.
