President Murmu commends Armed Forces for successful counter-terrorism operation

In a significant military event in India, President Droupadi Murmu was briefed by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and other service chiefs about 'Operation Sindoor' which responded to a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that occurred on April 22, resulting in the deaths of 26 people. The President, serving as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, was informed of the details and outcomes of the operation, which was carried out with precision and bravery by Indian forces. Following the terror attack, the Indian government acted swiftly to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, originally signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan. This decision came after a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting that was held just a day after the attack, reflecting India’s urgent response to escalated tensions with its neighbor. In a show of strength, the Indian government sought to reaffirm its commitment to national security and counter-terrorism. During a visit to the Adampur Air Base on May 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the air warriors and soldiers for their valor and precision during the operation. He noted that India exercised military restraint only after Pakistan's request for a pause in military actions, warning that any recurrence of terrorism would provoke strong retribution. Modi emphasized the operation as a demonstration of India's growing military and technological capabilities. The role of the SEPECAT Jaguar, a ground attack aircraft used by the Indian Air Force, was highlighted during the recent military engagement with Pakistan, marking its significant involvement in the largest aerial contest in a generation. Despite primarily being designed for ground attacks, the Jaguar was utilized in operations against more maneuverable Pakistani aircraft, showcasing its versatility within the IAF's tactical framework amidst growing military tensions in the region.
